ATS - Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) BILD&RRN accredited

Module 1: Positive Behaviour Support & De- De-escalation

Preventative, proactive, and responsive strategies to manage behaviour of concern and aggression - (trauma-informed, Positive behavioural support and de-escalation)

The outcome and aims of this process are positive outcomes for all (the service, staff and end users) through -

  • Improving quality of life
  • Reducing behavioural challenges 
  • Reducing the use of restrictive practices
  • Improving morale and relationships
  • Improving service reputation and
  • lowering costs

Feedback shows module 1 stands above many of the other systems available on the market for improving empathy and understanding from staff and having a lasting impact on the culture of the setting.

Module 2: Personal safety strategies and breakaway techniques

Preventative and proactive Strategies to protect staff as well as service users in the event of hazardous behaviour, as well as teaching physical skills as a last resort to protect and disengage from high-risk situations. Including defence from strikes, breakaway skills from a selection of grabs and strategies to protect someone else.

Module 3: Positive Handling

Restrictive and non-restrictive physical intervention skills (Positive handling, Guiding, Restraint, clinical holding).

We ensure staff are fully aware of the laws and guidance around physical intervention skills, focusing on the reduction of risk and restrictive practices. We also provide staff with the skills to safely manage and control risks using appropriate and safe restrictive techniques.

Module 4: Advanced Safe Holding

Higher level restrictive physical skills to manage higher risk situations (floor holds).

Some settings require a higher level of skills and techniques to manage risks; this will be based on a training needs analysis and assessment.

Each module is made up of numerous setting specific components and the modules must be completed in order. The module level required, and components included will be based on your individual setting, risk assessment, required accreditation and training needs analysis.
